Net Metering Decision Made: Good News For Clean Energy Producers
Today the Idaho Public Utilities Commission denied Idaho Power’s proposal which aimed to increase the net metering cap, change the existing price structure, and set an expiration for net excess energy credits. This is a big day for independence from monopoly power and clean energy production. The Commission entered the following decision:
1. No net metering cap going forward
2. No change to existing price structure
3. No expiration of generation credits
4. Agreed to the ICEA’s negotiated interconnection rules
About Net Metering:
Net metering is the program for folks who generate their own power at their home of office. The Idaho Power proposal, if approved by the PUC, would have a significant, detrimental on this program. The effects would make the finances of small-scale installations unattractive by making it difficult to reduce energy bills through self-generating power.
